Lesson plan

LEVEL: Form 4 (Intermediate)
TOPIC: Let Give Them Award!!!
THEME: Friendship
TIME: 80 minutes
LANGUAGE CONTENT: Adjectives, Simple Present Tense, Simple Past Tense.

AIMS: By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

  • Use their writing skills to provide arguments and evidence in simple paragraph
  • Use their speaking skills to deliver a simple impromptu speech.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• One computer per group of 2-3 students
• Internet connection
• Web Browser


PREPARATION:

1. Locate the bored.com website.
2. Browse through the website and find the suitable activity that can be done in classroom
3. Prepare worksheet based on the information in the website.

4. Find suitable videos at youtube to be used for set induction and reference.


WEBSITE:

  2. www.youtube.com


PROCEDURE:

Set induction: (8 minutes)

  1. Teacher shows a clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zqau9him-aU) about an award show to students.
  2. Teacher asks students’ opinion about the excitement and fun of award show.
  3. Teacher introduces the lesson.


Task 1: (40 minutes):

  1. Teacher asks the students to form a group of 2 to 3 per computer.
  2. Teacher instructs students to open the following website. http://www.awardwinner.com/
  3. Teacher shows students how to create a certificate in the website
  4. Teacher asks students to nominate one of their friends to receive an award listed on the website.
  5. Teacher asks the students to copy and paste the certificates on a prepared worksheet in Microsoft Word.
  6. Using the worksheet, the students are asked to write a simple paragraph explaining why he or she had chosen the person to win the award. (refer to example 1)


Task 2: (25 minutes):

  1. Teacher refers to the video shown during set induction to explain about acceptance speech.
  2. Teacher asks for volunteers to present their award.
  3. The recipient of the award is given 30 seconds to prepare an impromptu acceptance speech.
  4. After 30 seconds, the recipient of the award are asked to deliver the speech
  5. Steps 2 – 4 are repeated again with different volunteers.

Conclusion: (7 minutes)

  1. Teacher recaps the lesson on ‘Let’s give them an award!!!”
  2. Teacher ask students on other awards that they can give their friends in order to appreciate them.

FOLLOW-UP ACTIVITY:

  1. Teacher asks the students to write an e-mail about the award that they think they should won.

    Wow! The students must have lots and lots of fun time to choose the awards from the website. I would love the 'Super Sexy Award' lolz! ;)

    well done nico..i love the LP so much..like saha said, students will enjoy the lesson very much..besides, they'll get to appreciate their own friends and get to know each other better..good values there..task 2 is interesting too~!!

    to be honest.. I'm not into High School Musical. I only like the dancing part. If I were your student, I think I would think that the lesson is boring at first. Haha (because of the HSM thingy)but OH MY GOD!!! I'm gonna be the one screaming -- over-excited when you ask me to create the award. I love this activity back in school until now. I can imagine you teaching this and your students participating with big smiles!! so creative izzat!

    I have done this when I was in high school during Friendship Day. You also managed to put the speaking skill into practice by asking them to give the acceptance speech. Good job :)

    Fun way to teach English...looking at all the lesson plans,i'm glad i took tesl becuz i dun think math teachers can do all this stuff eh. haha...however, i think the lesson can be more fun if all the students in the class vote for the award nominations. That way,everyone can enjoy the class! heheh...
